The practice of crime against women was started germinating since the start of Patriarchal Social System and by and by it has grown as a revengeful demon. Apart from direct crime against women in the male dominated society– the-then society unleashed a reign of terror/crime in the round about way like no or limited access to education, less importance of women-opinion in respect of family & social role, scolding & abusing at the slightest cause, keeping women from property inheritance/ownership and exploiting them in every ways due to economic dependence and last but not the least, in underrating or discarding their choice/option regarding gender discrimination, contraception & abortion.
With the growth of civilisation & advancement of science and change of outlook due to spread of education – the situation has started changing from severe to bad. In the society irrespective of caste, creed, political status – there is still a undercurrent of dominance of women socially & economically. Their counterpart i.e. men expose their ‘heinous’ & ‘brutal’ image thinking women as ‘meek & gentle’.
Back to the context of crime against women directly, let us cast out glance on the different types of torture & crime, the women use to fall an easy prey to these that comprises – gender inequality, less exposure to education in comparison to the male one, domestic insult & assault, persistence/prevalence of dowry system despite administrative intervention, exploitation in the form of sex trafficking, forced labour, unwanted sexual harassment & online blackmailing through digital media etc.
In view of all pervasive assault & crime against women - the question very often peeps in our mind – are we actually advancing or retreating? we can’t overlook or deny the after-effect of these inhuman activities. As a consequence, we are frequently confronted with women’s injuries, depression, anxiety following prolonged abuses insult and some cases lead to untimely/premature death either by stabbing, poising, hanging, strangling or shot to death.
After such heinous and brutal commitment of crimes for years together – we have probably forgot the formula ‘two and two make four’, we are oblivious of our family peace, mental trauma of our sibling being grown up in a family. The Almighty have created two entities – Purus (Male) & Prakriti (Female). One is just none or zero without co-operation its counterpart in all sort of activities like child birth, nurturing of the child, children education and above all – smooth run of the family life.
As regards the prevention of such crime against women – we should remind the dictum ‘A stitch in time save nine’. We, the educated citizens cannot afford to neglect such degeneration of our society. It is not the time to lose heart but to do something to stabilize the social system providing equal platform to the women. Any perpetration of crime against women whenever and whereas required without any discrimination should not be tolerated. All we know, there are several inland laws like Dowry Prohibiting Act-1961 against dowry system or articles like 498 or 498A. Side by side, we also lend our heart-felt support for women empowerment in the society at par with other developed nations like U.K., U.S.A., and other European countries. To prevent such incidents - there are several ways/means local support from administration, State and National helpline for eliminating such mishaps.
Above all - moral changes is a must through various campaigns, boosting up preventive activities through various awards, making our new generation turn to the saga of Ramayana & Gita where women are placed in high esteem.
All we know – ‘জননী জন্মভূমিশ্চ: স্বর্গাদপি: গরীয়সী’
